Family Properties and Lost Mafia Strength

Have you noticed sizeable reductions in their Mafia Attack & Defense strength? The Mafia Wars team made an explanation this.  Here it is:

1) Because any items you add to your Family Properties are removed from your personal inventory, their Attack & Defense strength is no longer applied to you personally, but to your Family Property instead (so choose those items carefully).

2) Building the first Family Property, the Artillery Station, grants you a Family Property Bonus of 1,000 Mafia Attack Points, but only when its health is at 100%. The Family Property Bonus you receive is reduced when the property is damaged as the result of rival families robbing from it, so you'll want to repair it to keep its health (and the Family Property Bonus) at 100%. Also, 1,000 Mafia Attack Points is just the bonus for a Level 1 Artillery Station; you can increase the maximum possible Family Property Bonus awarded by each property by upgrading them to higher levels.

The Mafia Wars team hopes this explains what the recent shifts in your Mafia Attack & Defense strength. In reality, the biggest changes are likely from a rival-family robbing your Artillery Station and reducing your family bonus.

New Feature: Family Properties

So what is Family Properties feature in Mafia Wars?  The idea is as simple as you need to build and defend Family Properties: for the Family Property Bonus!  A good example is the Artillery Station,  it nets you a 1,000 point bonus to your Mafia attack (when its health is at 100%).  There are 10 levels to each Family Property and, in the case of the Artillery Station, each level grants a 1,000 point Mafia attack bonus. A Level 10 Artillery Station, then, will grant you a 10,000 point bonus to your Mafia attack!

When rival families rob from your Family Property, its health decreases and the Family Property Bonus you receive is reduced. Keep your Family Property fully repaired and maximally defended to maintain 100% of the bonus its level can grant you.

Here are the 3 main things to do when you built a Family Property in Mafia Wars:

Upgrade it. This increases the max Family Property Bonus the property can grant you. Upgrades are performed with consumable parts, which are available from robbing rival families' properties (max. 30/day) and from requests & gifts (max. 20/day).  Damaged properties cannot be upgraded until they are fully repaired.

Defend it. This makes it harder for rival families to reduce the Family Property Bonus the property is granting you. Each family member can add up to 5 items to a Family Property (higher defense stats = higher property health), but be sure to choose carefully, as the items you select will be removed from your personal inventory and cannot be recovered, even if you decide to better equip the Family Property later on. Items of all classes may be contributed; try combinations to earn a bonus.

Repair it. Restoring your Family Property's health recovers any Family Property Bonus reductions resulting from rival families robbing the property. Family Properties do not heal themselves; repairs, like upgrades, are performed with consumable parts, which are available from robbing rival families' properties (max. 30/day) and from requests & gifts (max. 20/day).

Requesting Help From Your Mafia Is Now Easier Than Ever!

Sending & requesting gifts and asking your Mafia members to join your City and Mission Crews has received an upgrade to make getting help from your Mafia easier than ever! Here are the recent changes to the Requesting experience:

A New Look

The Facebook-style list and buttons that previously appeared in the Request window have been replaced to better match the look of Mafia Wars. (See the Crew Request window at left as an example.)

Select More Recipients
The maximum number of recipients you can select at a time has been increased to 50, and you can send gifts and requests to multiple batches of 50!

Fewer Clicks Required
You can now check a box that allows you to skip seeing Facebook's request post preview and second "Send Requests" button when you send requests to the same recipients in the future!

How To Send Requests With Fewer Clicks.

When you receive the Facebook request post confirmation window the first time you send a request with the new system, make sure that the box next to "Don't ask before sending Mafia Wars requests to..." is checked before clicking Facebook's "Send Requests" button. This whitelists the recipients so you aren't presented with the Facebook request post confirmation window when sending requests to them in the future. Whitelist your entire mafia and you may never have to see that Facebook request post confirmation window ever again!

A Note About Mafia Wars Requests on the Facebook Game Requests Page

The enhancements above were made possible by shifting the handling of Mafia Wars requests to be entirely in-game. Another change that results from this is in the behavior of Mafia Wars requests on the Facebook Game Requests page. Before, you were able to accept Mafia Wars requests on that page. Now, the "Accept" buttons bring you into the game, where you can accept all gifts, etc. in the ZMC. Also of note, handling requests entirely in our system means the error codes KE-29, AF-77, and MC-24 sometimes encountered when accepting gifts through the Facebook Game Request page will cease to be problem! These error messages will become a thing of the past once all old requests are cleared out, which should happen within approximately 30 days.

Family Boss Fight: Jimmy Lechon

Silverio Fallaci is being pushed out* by Jimmy Lechon, the new Family Boss who thinks there's not enough room for the both of 'em. Use the collaborative strength of your family to show him that he's not as dangerous as he thinks he is, and be among the top contributors to the fight for a chance to recieve the Death Card (200/200) when your family beats him!

Family Boss Fights pit your entire family against an epic boss. In the case of Jimmy Lechon, you'll have 7 days to reduce his 1,125,000 health to zero. (You may have more or less time to take out future Family Bosses.) Whenever the timer runs out on a Family Boss Fight, the boss' health resets and you will have another chance to prove your family is in charge.

*Note: If your family is currently engaged in a Family Boss Fight with Silverio Fallaci, you'll have to complete that fight in order for Jimmy Lechon to become available.

If you're not familiar with how Family Boss Fights work, check out here.

When it is officially released, you will be able to request upgrade parts for 14 full days and any progress you may have made in the approximately 2 hours it was available today will already be in place.

The Mafia Wars Team apologizes for the mix-up.

Mafia Wars 1 In The House!

This statement was published on Official MW blog.

Thank you, Mafia Wars players, for your concern about the fate of Mafia Wars 1. To be clear, our dedicated team continues to pour its heart into the game. We are very excited about all of the new content and updates we have planned, and about our renewed focus on the top concerns we continue to hear from you, our players. Some of the things on which we are focused include:

    • Bugs & performance issues that impact your game play -- especially those related to fighting.
    • The number & rate of new features and events. We have heard your feedback about there being too much to do in too short a time. We remain dedicated to keeping the game fresh, but will try to do so without making it overwhelming. In fact, you may have already noticed longer timers, fewer events, and breaks between them.
    • The gifting experience – You’ve told us it’s frustrating, difficult, and takes too much time; we aim to improve it.

We can’t fix everything overnight but, rest assured, we will be focusing on these items and any additional player concerns as they arise while also developing new content. We continue to be excited about the future of the original Mafia Wars, and we hope you are too! We are also excited about the addition of Mafia Wars 2 to Zynga’s collection of crime games and encourage you to give it a try. Thank you for your continued passion for Mafia Wars. We look forward to continuing to receive your feedback via the Mafia Wars forum.

Mafia Wars Zombie Apocalypse

Mobsters!

It's time to put your fighting skills to the test in a battle for humanity. For approximately 1.5 weeks beginning tomorrow afternoon, October 26th, fight as either a Survivor fending off Zombies or as a Zombie trying to turn Survivors into more of your kind in the Mafia Wars Zombie Apocalypse Fight Event!

Collect Ices Just Like Ice Seasons, But Otherwise Different

    • Instead of a 1-2 week "season," multiple zombie "waves" will occur until the event ends approximately 1.5 weeks after it begins. Each wave ends when the Zombie plague has overtaken the vast majority (~90%) of the population, which should occur multiple times by November 4th. The exact number of zombie waves that will occur isn't certain, however, as each could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the number of people icing at any given time.
    • At the beginning of each wave, you are assigned the role of Survivor or Zombie and your role is visible to all as an icon next to your name in fight lists. The color of your pop-up windows' borders will remind you of your current role, which will switch at the beginning of each new wave. If you are a Survivor, there is also a chance that you will be turned into a Zombie any time you are iced. In the event that you are turned into a Zombie mid-wave, the ices/points accumulated while you were a Survivor continue to count toward mastering that wave. The item you can receive at the end of each wave is based on your role at the time the wave ends.

Each Role's Goal + How to Maximize Your Score
The goal as a Zombie is to convert Survivors to Zombies by icing them. The goal as a Survivor is to stave off the Zombie Apocalypse by icing Zombies while keeping yourself alive. To help you accomplish this, Zombie Protection and Antidotes will be available for purchase on the fight page and on select pop-ups. While your score will increase for each person you ice during this event, you will receive bonus points for icing players on the opposing side.

Zombie Apocalypse Fight Event Loot
There are many opportunities, depending on your score, to collect loot drop and mastery items for both sides. Collect enough ices to master all 4 of the tiers as a Survivor to earn the Ruby level Apocalypse Bike (125/85), and collect enough ices to master all 4 of the tiers as a Zombie to earn the Ruby level Brain Cage (76/117). The item you can receive at the end of each wave is based on your role at the time the wave ends.

Remember to keep your brain with you at all times,
The Mafia Wars Team
